SMYTH FAMILY FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS
Many thanks to all of you who sent contributions or who came to the fundraiser to benefit the Smyth family, the dairy farm family that comes to our farmers’ market. Altogether we raised around $12,000.
It is now 5 months since Sam’s accident on the farm. As you might imagine, learning to live life in an entirely different way than had been planned, is difficult.
Last week (March 9th) I was at the farm and Sam was there. He is using a lightweight wheelchair and he can maneuver himself up one step with it. He was in the barn with some vets from Tufts and came into the office and told his parents that they had a barn full of pregnant cows which he said is like money in the bank for them. I learned something about the process of making the cows pregnant, and no, it isn’t done in the pasture.
The family was very pleased to recognize so many of you who are regular customers at the farmers’ market at the fundraiser. This is an extremely difficult time for everyone in the family, so the support that they have received is so welcomed. Dale said that the notes that they have received are very helpful.
Our marvelous farmers’ market opens on May 5th, same time (12:30-6) same place (Trinity Church, Sumner Ave. right next to Forest Park.) We’ll have one new vendor, a dairy farm from North Granby, CT that makes goat cheese and cow cheese. They’re called SweetPea Cheese.
See you May 5th!
